This research focuses on the enormous diversity of residents with different cultures, identities, forms of living together, …
A typology is often translated directly to its user. A studio is occupied by the elderly, but also by a son in need of care, students and temporary expats,… A one-room apartment is occupied by an elderly couple or a single-parent family, who find it financially difficult to have their child visit twice a month, or furnished for people with disabilities.
There is a disconnect between the one-on-one relationship between resident and typology.
This is translated into a diversity of typologies that are linked together in different ways. The master plan is composed of buildings with clear differences, a different typology and volumetry. The figures each demarcate new space in their own way and define the unbuilt space. Each building has a clear address and is linked to different outdoor spaces. The diversity provides clarity and recognizability to the residents. The mixing promotes social encounters, flexibility in the plan allows diversity in the composition of the residents.
